On August 29, the Optoelectronics Laboratory of EIE PUCV, Optolab, organized an event bringing together industry and academia: the “ETT & Specim Panel Discussion.”

The activity began with a presentation by Nelson Díaz, Optolab postdoctoral researcher, who gave an overview of his work investigating strategies for acquiring and processing spectral, multispectral, and compressive video images, developing techniques to optimize data capture in these systems.
The program continued with Jorge Contreras, representative of Empresa de Transferencia de Tecnologías (ETT), who presented the solutions they offer in instrumentation, control, and services for the mining and manufacturing industries. He also highlighted ETT’s contribution to academia.

The panel then focused on the topic “Use and Applications of Hyperspectral Imaging,” a technique that identifies and processes information across the electromagnetic spectrum, obtaining a unique spectrum for each pixel of an image. This technology makes possible to precisely determine the composition and properties of objects, surfaces, and materials.
Sergio Manuel, representative of Specim, presented the main applications of hyperspectral technology and introduced the company’s portfolio of solutions, which includes hyperspectral cameras covering the visible to near-infrared range, as well as software systems and complementary accessories.

During his talk, he highlighted the wide range of applications for this technology in areas such as environmental monitoring, mining, quality control, waste management, agriculture, and even surveillance and defense, showcasing the broad impact of hyperspectral imaging.
This event was a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties between industry and academia, exploring real-world applications of the research being carried out at Optolab.
The session concluded with a guided tour of our laboratory, allowing attendees to see first-hand the work we are developing.

Finally, we would like to thank Emmanuel Peralta, Optolab PhD student, for coordinating this event, as well as René Villegas and Karen Bravo, from the Faculty of Engineering’s Innovation and Industry Engagement Office at PUCV, and Prof. Felipe Muñoz, from the School of Civil Engineering at PUCV, for their collaboration in making this activity possible.
